There are different ways in treating acne. Others use over the counter acne products while others rely on prescribed acne treatments. But how would you know if a treatment is the right one for you or not? Here are some basic guidelines on how to choose your acne treatment.
If you are suffering from a mild case of acne, usually natural acne treatments and over the counter acne products would do the trick. Mild acne is also known as the non-inflammatory type of acne. This type of acne is characterized by pores clogged by oil but does not show the signs and symptoms of inflammation such as swelling, redness and pus. Natural acne treatments such as lemon and apple cider vinegar contains alpha hydroxy acids that can help dissolve hardened oil that clogs your pores. However, you need to prepare your skin. Wash your skin with warm water to loosen the dead skin cells that adheres to the opening of your pores. Warm water can also open your pores allowing your natural acne treatment to sip in and dissolve the clogged oil. Over the counter acne treatments on the other hand provides a specialized treatment that loosens dead skin cells and dissolve oil clogs. Usually you can accomplish this by using a cleanser and a toner.
Moderate cases of acne, requires a more aggressive treatment. Though over the counter acne products usually work for this type of acne, you need to be choosy with your treatment. Look for over the counter acne products that contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. If you want to treat your acne conservatively, tea tree oil is a good alternative. Natural acne treatments such as lemon and honey acne mask can also work but you need to wait a little longer to get good results.
Severe acne on the other hand requires a specialized treatment. Some over the counter acne products may work but most often than not these treatments will not give off the best results. If you have severe acne, it is important to consult a doctor. Your doctor will be able to prescribe the best treatments that will help you get clear skin. These treatments can range from acne antibiotics, vitamin A derivatives or modern acne therapies such as microdermabrasion and laser therapy.
No matter what type of acne you have, it is important that you do something about it fast. Do not settle for cover ups because treating acne is actually easy.
